Hovannisian examines the political and diplomatic history of the Republic of Armenia in 1919–1920, from the Paris Peace Conference to the London talks. It does not treat the 1918 Army of Islam campaign directly, but rather the post-1918 South Caucasus order, Armenian–Azerbaijani relations and great-power policy in the region. It is included as contextual reference for the aftermath of 1918 and the continuing contest over Baku and Karabakh.
