Published in Baku by Nurlan in 2003, this Azerbaijani-language book by Seyfeddin Ganiyev examines the mass violence against the Muslim-Turkic population of Shamakhi and its environs in 1918, which the author characterises as genocide. It is a key local source in Azerbaijani historiography for the violence that preceded and helped shape the political and military context of the Caucasus Islam Army's summer 1918 campaign. This is the first of two volumes.
