An Azerbaijani-language monograph examining the 1918-1920 violence against the Azerbaijani population of the Shamakhi district within a 'genocide' framework.

Published by Elm in Baku in 2017, Vaqif Abishov's book examines, on the basis of archival materials, the violence inflicted on the Azerbaijani population of the Shamakhi district between 1918 and 1920; the author characterises these events as genocide. It provides context for the regional situation that followed the March 1918 events and preceded the Army of Islam's summer 1918 advance along the Shamakhi-Baku axis. Within the collection it stands as an example of Azerbaijani historiography on the social and demographic background of 1918.
