A Russian-language article examining, with statistical data, the economic presence of Armenian merchants and entrepreneurs in Tiflis from the late Middle Ages to 1918.

Published in the journal "21-й век", Khachatur Dadayan's article uses statistical and source-based evidence to describe the role of Armenian residents and entrepreneurs (including A. Mantashyants) in Tiflis trade, credit-finance, banking and industry from the late Middle Ages to 1918. The author argues that Armenians were the leaders of the city's key economic sectors. The text does not address the Army of Islam or the 1918 Azerbaijani campaign directly and offers only indirect background on the socio-economic setting of the South Caucasus before 1918.
