The migration of Azerbaijani Turks to the Ottoman Empire and Turkey, 1828-1928: mass, commercial and intellectual-political waves.

The book examines the migration of Azerbaijani Turks to the Ottoman Empire and to Turkey under three headings: mass migration, commercial migration, and intellectual-political migration. By the authors' count, no fewer than 200,000 people moved from Azerbaijan to Turkey between 1828 and 1928. The intellectual migrations that continued under Tsarist pressure, especially in the early twentieth century, coincided with the years of Turkey's own transformation. For this collection its value lies in placing the 1918 campaign within a long flow of people and ideas between the two countries.
